COFFIN CREEK NEW LINES TO $15,000

COFFIN Creek is not an unknown in the Angus world but their eighth annual bull sale held on-property on Thursday was a first for the White brothers Jack and Harry.
With a very proud father, Nigel watching on, the boys offered 36 of their line of bulls that they had worked on over the past few years. They sold 34 of the 36 at auction with the two remaining bulls selling straight after the sale giving a 100 per cent clearance for the day. The auction averaged $5666.
With furious bidding to start the sale, Coffin Creek P41 topped the day at $15,000. The 16 month-old Matauri Reality 839 son who had a 400-day weight in the top two per percentile and an eye muscle area (EMA) of 100 centimeters was sold to return buyer Dougal Kelly, Wallah, Rugby.
As one of two volume buyers, Mr Kelly also purchased two other bulls, Coffin Creek P20 and Coffin Creek P74 for a draft average of $10,000. "I liked his length and his potential as a heifer bull." Mr Kelly said. "He ticks all the boxes with performance, his ease of calving and his high Intramuscular Fat (IMF), he is an exceptional bull." We will join about 1000 females this year and these three bulls will join the heifers soon.
"The White boys have had a steady progression upwards in the quality of their cattle, they are breeding what the market is after, performance and versatility."
Also securing three bulls were the Parry Trust, Willow Tree. They topped their draft at $6000 for an average of $6000. A further eight buyers took home two bulls each.
Coffin Creek co-principal, Jack White was extremely pleased with the sale. "It was lovely to see the first bull recognised, he is a really good bull." He said. "It is nice to see our work come to fruition this year. We are not changing a lot but adding technology to our program and driving some figures into the herd and maintaining the type of our cattle. It is great to see the new sire lines sell really well. We had return buyers from Victoria and locally. We also had a lot of new buyers which is very pleasing."
The sale was conducted by McDonald Lawson, Mudgee with Paul Dooley manning the rostrum.
